little lambs
04:57
|
|||
pass me up, pass me 'round, this is it for me
i've lost count of the times i've stopped to think
that this all makes sense on a different day
tomorrow i'll find i'm on my feet
should a mountain be moved
can the sun stand still
do all birds get to fly
will the dam hold the weight
they're not too far from the truth when they say
we have it all when we go on our way
but this book i can't read so what do i do
put it back on the shelf or stuff it into the chair
when there's a storm on the sea and a wind on the hill
the tides turn as they do, the trees sway every way
life is short, life is long; love is right, love is wrong
life is short, life is long; love is right, love is wrong
we're not too far from the truth when we say
they have it all when they go on their way

the fog
03:24
|
|||
gone is their former resolve
to come in and conquer this land
they flew for the grace of the clouds
without even returning the stones
to their place
it happened to the best of them
and it'll happen again
woman and man
with love for this land
have you flown to the sun
or planted your names in the sand
when you knew the time had come
to fly away
whoever had helped you through
will one day be helping us too
now gone are the days
when our strength would wane
how we'd howl at the moon
the confusion we saw all around
had one day descended on us two
the fog
when came the only time to speak
it was the only word we knew

down the road
02:33
|
|||
all of my efforts
i can let them go
i found out i was you
a few years down the road
i'm still in the dark
but i can let that go
i found out i was you
a few years down the road
where is my answer
i can let that go
i found out i was you
a few years down the road

blush
04:45
|
|||
mind my arrow passing through time
splitting in fairness what i feel inside
if i find i have the urge to shelve myself
for what's familiar and makes you smile
we're all afraid to walk beside what's strange
and further alienating me is what's strange to you
now occupies my mind
working daily in a laboratory
obsessed with ultimate alchemy
transforming dreams into working schemes
but to share them's like spreading disease
we all complain on sunny days
when a stranger's cloud starts spewing rain
and shivering wet convinced that
we opened our window for this
and we all blow off potential friends
at the moment when we'd be meeting them
too busy wondering why aren't they looking for me
the first note i sing angels swarm to me
riding pulsing waves of distant galaxies
the universe is abuzz with life
though i am alone when i open my eyes
we're all content with how we spend
our waking dream, our best attempt
is never as pathetic as it seems to them
and we can see our journeying
summed up in another's sentiments
but would life blush if we sang our own song to it

starkids
04:25
|
|||
in a sea of unsung songs
some poets fall in love with every one
and dream of kissing god
they give the moon new names
and save special stars to give to friends
but the real magic's in their eyes
for the gold
a liquid state they came from
and will return to they're told
their pretty faces will not age
as they grow old
and their home
is a planet made of the dust of stars of old
so you see the light it will not fade
as they cross over
much of life they must reject
to crown their own heroes
in their own myths
with the leaves they wake up in
to see one is quite rare
you can blink your eyes
and they're not there
for they don't grace everywhere

the eternal
03:24
|
|||
miles away, years ago
a star was born, a shift was felt
now i'm thinking to myself
is that where these ideas came from
is that where these ideas come from
as i look around this busy world
at the glue that holds it together
why is the hope we have always got to be
the tiniest of flickering flames
oh to be young again
i hear the old folks say
well where did all the time go
well i worked it all way
and a life out of control
a truth you cannot tell
burns hotter than the moment
longer than the eternal
does a beast rule this world
wielding power and control
telling us that we can't hold
our own children in our arms
of all the riddles i can see
the eternal's got to be the biggest
but to blast yourself off to that ring
means letting go of everything
then you'll outlast the mountains
falling into the sea
or the galaxies collapsing
but essentially cease to be
when a life out of control
a truth you cannot tell
burns hotter than the moment
longer than the eternal

i never shared, i never cared
world had problems, so did i
counterpart cut up your heart
and everyone is served a slice
of a dish they've all been waiting for
but should you have it all
and be warned
i heard that loving a music man
ain't all it's supposed to be
probably trade a hundred songs i wrote
if i would only treat you better
and put the music down
up late, up early
you don't live here anymore
in solitude now more than ever
i have discovered
what companionship is for
i never shared, i never cared
world had problems, oh did i
i'd fold a million paper birds
or wring the sponge until it hurt
if there was still a drop
if there was still a will to fly it is tonight
planning all our bon voyages
and sailing off through these mirages
you and i adrift on a sea of stars
that were not ours

thin blue lines
03:19
|
|||
what of a dragon that's slowly gnawing on the roots
a colossal tree of which our stars are its shining fruits
while meanwhile we stay where is home
in the waves of our own echoes
and look on in wonder at all off the places we cannot go
without our thin blue lines
perched up on the wires watching the scene below
yelling at our lives we fly off the handle
and the sun is still shining its light as is the wind of the world
blowing around all of the little lies that we tell ourselves
about these thin blue lines

thursday
03:42
|
|||
despite the math, love laughs
i'll be there when all this comes to pass
just relax, i have been here long before
your dreams lied
happiness cried
before life died
day after day
players of the game tell me to play
cheaters and their cheating ways
suggest i cheat
but the losers don't prescribe
losing to me
losing any
or losing you
love can you hear me
i'm sorry i forget to meet you there
forget your name
forget half the things you taught me
when we met
we spoke again
or when i left
now day after day after day
i'm conjuring up a word
i dare not speak
i'm searching for a truth
i already possess
burning fiery emotion
wading waters of unrest
the wind tells me
this is home
and this is life
though it takes everything to shine
the twinkling stars
remind me i am bright
and that i might
eventually be here long after
the wrongs right
the pyramids capsize
our worlds collide

lightning
04:04
|
|||
how i love your memory
it warms me like these drugs
could warm me for eternity
but then i'd have to stay alone
what's in all them books you eat
if you cannot read my heart
we look at life so differently
you treat our lives so equally
and tell me all is well
but the shortest way to heaven
for me is straight through hell
to hate yourself so frequently
you forget many things
but yes i know you think of me
what's the lightning for
what's this life for
when i think of how you feel for me
i wonder maybe if
you don't know what these eyes see
because you can see what i can't looking in
i see you when i close my eyes
i feel you when i cry
it's been so long, i miss you
in my favorite dream we reconcile
together we erase the end
i pick where and you pick when
what's the struggle toward
what are you holding on for
and it's scary how time flies
unceasing, unchanging, unstoppable
and our chances are like clouds
drifting out of reach

peace
06:14
|
|||
my heart needed a walk
my feet needed time
i needed distraction
from things on my mind
to find happy people
and look in there eyes
but they looked away
as if i envied their youth
when all i wanted to tell them
was i'd said that too
then i disappeared
and they filled my shoes
i was almost there
i was almost home
then the sun began to rise
said to me cracking a smile
how about for me just one more time?
how do we stop a ship
we can't even slow down
who'll hold the candle
when the light goes out
and where can we trust
to shoot in the dark
when all of the ghosts
who have helped us so far
find peace
away from the small world
they've been saving
i raised my fist
to the pagan god
to witness my vow
but the coins in my pocket
found their way out
and i learned how to love
what i'd never known how
when i could not escape
what i would not embrace
and find peace in my being

desert roses
05:01
|
|||
an old stone house, a desert town
pinyon pine on lifeless ground
save for a rose so out of place
like someone once said well this is nice
you turned to look, it caught your eye
the thorn that made love blind
the sky adores, the world ignores
the passage of their old friend time
and oh we've grown quite fond of it
our hope for what the highway brings
still pushing blooms as petals fall
and as distant as the moon and stars
you turned to look, it caught your eye
the thorn that made love blind
the sky adores you, the world ignores you
after all you're kind
of blind to this, and stuck on that
or indifferent to all these ideas
oh where do they all come from, all these ideas
who will keep track of all the right ones
if i don't care and i am not pondering riddles
like just how old is love, who planted the first rose
