carved in stone but given wings candles lit at a Beltane feast on my mind are the flickering flames in a struggle toward a world undone why keep calm and carry on in and out of all these lives when wick to wick and the world’s on fire petals twist open to the sun the first note crackles and the song’s begun the chariot races forth across the sky the circle’s so big it looks like a straight line and a hand will hoist you on the day you die the last budding elm has said it’s found its leaves the last light goes out at a Beltane feast soon my thoughts turn to other things a withering view of how we grow an ancient people wearing modern clothes to the question mark an i don’t know if the edge of the world is a wall of ice if flowers are earthbound butterflies and the wind is a voice steering you right if the center of the heart is the source of your power and butterflies are liberated flowers if when they occur i'll hang on every word because when you’re not giving up or going down you disappear like a lost island heard of it once when you were somewhere else you remember it all as if from someone else

Coleus 02:42
Landed a job in the winter as a greenhouse clerk In a steel city this hard up it was good to find work Since '82 this town's been returning to the earth It's been forgotten by everyone except those like it in the world We've got ivy on the inside we gotta hack back Coming up from the dripping, dripping, dripping of the water lines into the cracks Chinook winds turn the shade cloth into a kite So they send me up a ladder with a coffee, a drill, and a fear of heights I spend the day with a bird's eye view of the grave and the thought of flying Could radiating out from this bubble Be the strength to ungrip this town from the bottle Down in Arizona they're expanding volcanic rocks To the north they are draining the Canadian bogs They mix them both together and they stick them on a truck For coleus cuttings and geranium pots

There's a bird in flight and the smoke is thick It's going to take all night but that's what it's got to be Because the earth is here and the world is there She's has a great idea but the world had theirs To take green and blue and make grey and black Got to keep moving on because there's no turning back But through the stumps of trees and the bare soil I know you are out there somewhere in the loneliest world Building a tower we don't want to see Making friends that we don't want to keep What behooves a desert if our eyes can see Water everywhere but not a drop to drink And not a thought to think And not a song to sing. And not a lot to leave.

Almagre 03:04
I looked at the mountain, Piled a week upon my back And left the home I’d made with you, Turned it to a speck. Crunching the tundra, I cried a mighty, ‘who?’ Little flowers all so beautiful Told me it was you. Alone in the sky In a meadow of crystals I found you. I climbed and I climbed, Just to touch the place of peace I had found in you. How beautiful is this land, How strange is my life. I wonder if the earth And the world ever will collide. How strange to think Who’s in control Of such a beautiful mind. Acquiescing though it may be, There is still a little time For moments of this.

Any day now I see it happening It's running through your mind Yes I'm generalizing everything Because I don't have much time For death and dreams and so it seems Step by step by step I'm out of here Walking through that door Yes I know you know I know you know It's all a metaphor For death and dreams and so it seems I'm filling up on magic beans Every day I'm filled with disbelief It's running through my mind Packing up with everything I own The illusion of time For death and dreams and so it seems Killing all our enemies It's time and time

Staying 05:20
I went for a walk to a place that quiets my soul Either it's not there anymore or I'd lost my way But I know they reconfigure landscapes until they resemble home So I pick a different sort of goal What are we getting away with in a world running out of time The same thing I'm afraid of that keeps me running around A tower to the heavens, what a lofty idea Wouldn't it be tragic if they'd told us they didn't want us near So many times I've felt myself sinking down So many chances to take your hand I went for a walk, I was tired of fighting the good fight I encountered a haven, I was led there by the light Maybe once, Maybe twice, I can't recall Something seemed familiar to me

Gold 02:54
give you the gold now what's the delay already half your life has flown away you need the world back to blue and green the burning fire behind a human being and the beating wings above your head make such a beautiful sound till they leave you in the silence of a place you cannot leave behind and you, you're writing the poem because you think you don't belong but what could be more wrong of you then to dream of home and think that there is none for you oh what could be more wrong then to dream of home and think that there is none you can't find yourself all the time on top of this and be blind to your point in the line your place in the family, and your heart but you know your gold's not out there

i was born into a perfect day then thrust into hide and seek the stars and bars found me with so much good, good work to do in this land of the on the move the stars and bars need you i'm not really o.k. with what we're doing here the stars and bars don't care

these swollen creeks have settled down another year upon them now a waning gibbous over our day a teardrop for our wicked way the early mornings are orange still pink, magenta, then fade so soon the whole of nature comes alive whispering to me one more time high wind, high water the land may slide and threaten the candle i keep inside though the times a tender part is scorched are the times i see what's in the dark i see you offering a sweeter thrill to chase after that bitter pill though mother earth and mister sun convince me i'm not what i've become
