about

Lest we remember.

lyrics

carved in stone but given wings
candles lit at a Beltane feast
on my mind are the flickering flames
in a struggle toward a world undone
why keep calm and carry on
in and out of all these lives

when wick to wick and the world’s on fire
petals twist open to the sun
the first note crackles and the song’s begun
the chariot races forth across the sky
the circle’s so big it looks like a straight line
and a hand will hoist you on the day you die

the last budding elm has said it’s found its leaves
the last light goes out at a Beltane feast
soon my thoughts turn to other things
a withering view of how we grow
an ancient people wearing modern clothes
to the question mark an i don’t know

if the edge of the world is a wall of ice
if flowers are earthbound butterflies
and the wind is a voice steering you right
if the center of the heart is the source of your power
and butterflies are liberated flowers
if when they occur i'll hang on every word

because when you’re not giving up or going down
you disappear like a lost island
heard of it once when you were somewhere else
you remember it all as if from someone else
